Pond Cleaning and Ponding Fish

  • Willow Creek Salmon and Watershed Education Center 95 Pine Street Edmonds, WA, 98020 United States (map)

We're back already! Time to move the coho to the pond! But first, the pond needs to be cleaned and prepped for the 80,000 new coho fry. Please join me in cleaning the pond and then ponding the coho (my favorite day of the year). This event goes all day, but there is a significant break between cleaning the pond and moving the coho while the pond refills. At this time, volunteers are free to leave for lunch and return in the afternoon for ponding.

Cleaning the pond can be slippery,  so please wear waders if you have them or non-slip shoes. I will provide the supplies to clean the pond, but I do not have extra boots, waders, or other PPE. Cleaning the pond will likely run from 9 am - 11 am (ish). There will be a lunch break until 2 pm, when the fish can be ponded (the pond takes about 2 hours to fill to a level where the fish can be moved). While the pond cleaning itself is fairly physically demanding, there are also some tasks for folks who are not comfortable in the pond.
