Corporate Events

Has your company been looking for a way to become more sustainable and reduce your environmental impact? Sound Salmon Solutions is now booking corporate team-building volunteer events for the 23-24 season. We'll help you increase team morale while also reducing your environmental impact and offsetting your carbon footprint through a day of team-building activities and habitat restoration.

As a foundation species for our beautiful Pacific Northwest, salmon help keep the ecosystem we all love in balance. However, their numbers have been declining due to a myriad of threats including habitat loss. By joining us for a day of team building and habitat restoration, your team will be directly contributing to salmon recovery.

Let us help you build a team who feels connected to one another and our watersheds.

Volunteer Activities can include:

Invasive vegetation removal- By removing invasive plants such as English ivy and Himalayan blackberry, your team can aid in clearing riparian habitat giving native trees and shrubs the chance to flourish. These events are available year-round and are suitable for groups of all sizes.

Planting native trees and shrubs - By planting native trees and shrubs, we provide shade to keep the water cool and roots that stabilize the bank, reducing water pollution and restoring important salmon habitat. To ensure the best chance of plant survival, these events are typically offered October-April and are suitable for groups of 10 or more.

Planting protecting - On each of our restoration sites we require a success rate of at least 80% for all the plants we put in the ground. Sometimes, this means taking additional measures against animals such as deer or beavers by placing protective tubes around the saplings. These tubes help prevent animals from rubbing or chewing on the plants giving them the opportunity to grow and flourish. These events are typically offered October-April and are suitable for groups of any size.

Hatchery husbandry - With salmon in decline, we actively contribute to increasing salmon populations by raising up to 80,000 coho salmon at our hatchery in Edmonds each year. Husbandry activities vary from cleaning egg trays to release events. These events are offered January-May and are suitable for groups of 10 or less. *Please note exact activities available at any given time are dependent on the development of the salmon.

Hatchery pond cleaning - After our salmon have been released and the pond has been drained, we seek volunteers to assist with cleaning the pond and prepping it for the next season. This event is offered once per year during the summer months and is suitable for groups of 10 or less.

All Corporate Events Include:

  • Icebreakers and team-building exercises focused on stewardship

  • A volunteer activity as outlined above

  • An opportunity to learn about the importance of salmon and recovery actions

  • Light refreshments and snacks

Events typically last 4 hours and are offered M-Th.

Costs:

A donation to SSS is requested to cover the costs of our staff, mileage, refreshments, and snacks. The donation is tax deductible and we will provide a thank you letter for your records. If an invoice and payment are preferable, that can be arranged.

*Locations and options available at any given time vary depending on site needs and staff availability.
